Joint Mortgage

Our joint mortgage service

At share to buy we specialise in arranging joint mortgages. These include joint mortgages between two or more friends; joint mortgages between family members or 'traditional' joint mortgages for couples/partners. We have access to the whole of the market; don't charge any fees and provide a free legal agreement covering some of the key legal issues of joint ownership. Since we launced in 2004, we have helped hundreds of first time buyers to take out a joint mortgage and these are some of our successful case studies.

How we can help you

We cover the whole of the market but also have access to exclusive products not available anywhere else, and without charging a fee at any point we can arrange the following types of joint mortgage:

  • Mortgages for friends clubbing together
  • Couples/partners buying a new home
  • Family members combining forces, e.g. a parent helping their son or daughter on to the property ladder.

Due to the exclusive shared mortgages in our range, we are able to provide a special type of joint mortgage calculator that can take up to four incomes into account. Click here for our joint mortgage calculator to see how much you could borrow.

Joint and several liability

Whatever option you choose, you must remember that with any joint mortgage all borrowers are jointly and severally liable for the whole loan and should consider taking out a legal agreement covering the relationship between the borrowers. At share to buy, we provide a free legal agreement covering these important issues and you can find more information here about joint ownership or click here to read about the share to buy legal agreement.

Mortgage Tools

  • Mortgage calculator – see how much you could borrow alone or as a couple, with friends, family or on a shared ownership mortgage. A basic estimate.
  • Mortgage illustration – you submit summary details for each applicant and a member of our team will reply with an estimate of your mortgage potential and provide an indication of likely repayments.
  • Agreement in principle – you provide detailed personal information and we respond with detailed illustrations for a choice of specific mortgage products currently available in the market. If you like one of the products, you can then request a non-binding decision from the lender confirming whether they would agree in principle to lend you that amount, subject to valuation and income verification. This can be very useful to prove to a vendor or housing association that you are able to purchase a property.
