If you are looking for information about shared ownership properties, including shared ownership homes for sale or rent in your area, you must first contact your local homebuy agent. The homebuy agent is a housing association designated by the Government as the regional contact point for enquiries about shared ownership schemes and properties. They should be able to assist with questions on eligibility for specific schemes but also have information on shared ownership houses and flats for sale in particular areas. Which properties can I buy with a shared ownership mortgage?

You CAN buy:

  • Shared ownership flats and houses sold by housing associations. These are usually new build, but it is also possible to purchase second hand shared ownership homes under a 'resale' scheme where an existing owner sells their share to you.
  • New build homes available under the Homebuy Direct scheme.

You CANNOT currently buy any property on the open market. There is currently no funding available for schemes such as open market homebuy (including mychoicehomebuy and ownhome) that previously enabled eligible applicants to purchase any property, new or second hand.
