Share to Buy – making housing affordable
In an age where barriers to home ownership seem ever higher, affordable home ownership schemes can make a real difference. Share to Buy is committed to making affordable housing schemes truly accessible and transparent online. Our main website, sharetobuy.com, is a ‘one stop shop’ for affordable home ownership schemes – you can search for shared ownership properties and find a mortgage to buy them with, all in one process.
Our London portal, www.sharetobuy.com/firststeps, is the official home of the Mayor of London’s FIRST STEPS scheme. FIRST STEPS covers all the main affordable home ownership products in London – including shared ownership (part buy part rent).
Share to Buy started as mortgage brokers focused on shared mortgages in 2004, expanding into a property portal and ‘one stop shop’ in 2010. Share to Buy continues to offer mortgage services focused on the affordable homes sector, and as such, Share to Buy ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We have used our experience as mortgage brokers to build a property portal where affordability is a key part of the interactive experience: for each property, we estimate the deposit needed to buy the home and the potential monthly payments when you move in.
Helping the homeless
For all mortgages we arrange, we donate £10 towards helping homeless people. Specifically, for every mortgage we arrange that goes on to complete we make a £10 donation to Broadway Homelessness & Support (Registered Charity 274403). James Cartlidge (pictured), our co-founder and Director, is a volunteer small business adviser to the Broadway charity, assisting in their effort to help homeless people start businesses of their own.

Today's guest blog is from Tim Seward Head of Property Sales at London Home Show Spring 2017 at Latimer:
First-time buyers struggling to raise enough cash for a deposit to buy a home of their own are increasingly turning to alternative ways of achieving the dream of home ownership.
Although shared ownership is by no means a new initiative – in fact it has been around since the early 1980s - it’s becoming more mainstream and an accepted part of the UK housing market. A recent report showed that the number of shared ownership purchases has risen by more than 130 per cent in six years.
We also provide the London Home Show each Spring & Autumn, supported by the Mayor of London it's the No.1 event for first time buyers in the capital. We bring together the biggest names in the first time buyer sector, with housing providers, solictiors & mortgage brokers exhibiting throughout the day. If you're at the beginning of your journey, you can also take advantage of our Ask the Expert Q&A sessions to give you a great overview of your options and the buying process. We hope to see you at the next London Home Show, keep an eye out for announcements on our Share to Buy Facebook page in the Spring and the Autumn.
