User Account Terms and Conditions
Please read this carefully. By accessing the Share to Buy website at www.sharetobuy.com or the First Steps portal www.sharetobuy/firststeps.com you are agreeing to the terms and conditions that appear below.
As a user you will be able to access material on all public areas of the site. Share to Buy do not make any charge for you to access the site. However, you should be aware that your Internet Service Provider and/or telephone service provider may charge you for the time spent accessing the Site in the same way that you are charged for telephone calls. There is no time limit applying to your access and use of the Site under these terms. Share to Buy Ltd reserves the right to suspend or terminate access and use of the Site at any time. Share to Buy Ltd may exercise this right with or without notice.
Information on the site
The details of the properties available on this Site are provided to us by providers of the Government’s Affordable Housing programme for your information only. We cannot verify these details and therefore make no warranties or representations as to their accuracy or completeness. If you rely on these details you do so at your own risk. Information on the Site may change without prior notice and Share to Buy Ltd cannot be held responsible if you act on information that has changed since viewed and since proved to be inaccurate.
Share to Buy Ltd reserves the right to gather information relating to site usage. Information gathered is primarily for internal use to allow us to refine and improve the site and our customer service. We do not in the main part gather specific information from individuals. Where we do so we will state clearly that this is the case and, we will make sure that this is held securely and in accordance with all relevant legislation. Where disclosure of information to a third party is likely we will endeavour to ensure that this is clearly indicated. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Share to Buy Ltd is a data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998. We will process personal information that you have supplied to us in accordance with that Act and only for the purposes for which it is collected. As a data subject, you have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
User Accounts – service specific privacy statement
- Each registration for a user account is for a single user only.
- You undertake that all information provided by you for the purposes of registering a user account is accurate and complete.
- You accept sole responsibility for all use of and for keeping secret any account ID and password that may have been given to you or chosen by you for use on this site.
By registering for a user account you agree to receiving communications from Share to Buy Ltd on behalf of providers of affordable housing (including housing associations and developers) or directly from such providers of affordable housing, and to receive communications from Share to Buy ltd specifically relating to technical and other matters for the purposes of the effective maintenance of your user account (for example, changes to Terms and Conditions). Emails that you could receive by opening a user account would thus be restricted to emails informing you when a new property has been added to sharetobuy.com that meets the requirements as specified in your user account settings (a ‘property alert’); and to other emails promoting specific affordable homes and/or providers of affordable homes; and ‘house-keeping’ matters (i.e. information from Share to Buy ltd in relation to the maintenance of your user account). In no circumstances will your personal data be disclosed to any third party unless as required by the Data Protection Act or at the direction of an English Court of Law, with the sole exception of Registered Providers of affordable home ownership properties, for the sole purpose of promoting affordable home ownership.
For customers in London opening a user account, your data will be the property of the Greater London Authority (GLA) and should the First Steps service be transferred to a new provider, your data would automatically be transferred to the new provider and your user account with Share to Buy would be deleted unless you actively chose to maintain it, or were using other services with Share to Buy Ltd via the user account.
When creating your user account, you will also be offered the option to receive a general newsletter from Share to Buy Ltd, which will contain news directly or indirectly related to affordable home ownership, including, but not restricted to: government scheme news; mortgage news; changes to the Share to buy website. Registering to receive newsletters from Share to Buy Ltd is optional and by doing so you agree to receive news and information from Share to Buy Ltd which may include promotion of third party products and/or services which Share to Buy Ltd believe may be of interest to you, and/or where the product and/or service is directly or indirectly related to affordable home ownership (e.g. financial services, including mortgages). When you register for the general newsletter from Share to Buy Ltd, in no circumstances will your personal data be disclosed to any third party unless as required by the Data Protection Act or at the direction of an English Court of Law.
