L and Q: Shared Ownership homes launching at Darwin Green in Cambridgeshire

First time buyer homes available through Shared Ownership in Cambridge

On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, L&Q are launching a collection of Shared Ownership homes at the highly anticipated Darwin Green development in Cambridge. A total of 13 homes will be made available in this initial phase which includes ten two-bedroom houses, and three three-bedroom houses, ideal for first time buyers and growing families. This is the first in many phases with a total of 151 Shared Ownership homes planned for release in future phases.

The homes are part of Darwin Green, a community off Huntingdon Road which will eventually be home to over 1,500 people, with their very own version of central park, which will feature a multi-use games area, outdoor sports area, sports pavilion, tennis and basketball court, football pitch and a football/cricket ground. This urban park will host events for the local community and residents in the future. A primary school, children’s centre, public library and a community hall are also planned for this development.

L&Q at Darwin Green will be offering homes at affordable prices for first time buyers, small families and young professionals with a unique opportunity to owning their very own home. Starting prices from £100,000 for a 25% share with a low deposit of £5,000*.

Shared Ownership makes it possible to own your home – even if you feel priced out of the property market. It’s an affordable home ownership scheme designed as a stepping-stone to outright ownership if you can’t afford to buy a home on the open market. Under the Shared Ownership scheme, you part-own and part-rent your home, making it possible for first time buyers and families to get on the property ladder.

Christine Osborne, Sales and Customer Service Director, L&Q (Counties Region), comments: “Cambridge has grown in recent years, with more and more people looking to put down roots in this flourishing area – drawn by jobs, the beautiful architecture and culture, and its proximity to London. However, many people have found it hard to get onto the housing ladder, and we’ve seen increasing demand for affordable homes in the local area.

“We’re proud to be bringing forward the first of many L&Q Shared Ownership homes in Cambridge, starting right here at Darwin Green. These homes will provide an affordable way for many single people, couples and families to get their dream home in a fantastic community, at a fraction of the cost of a normal deposit.”

Darwin Green residents are located 1.6 miles from the city of Cambridge where they can benefit from an array of modern amenities within walking distance including its very own central park which will feature 15 acres of open space along with sport pitches. There are direct road links with both the A14 and M11. The development is also a short drive from Cambridge Railway Station, providing regular services to London King’s Cross within 50 minutes and to London Liverpool Street station in around an hour.

New homes at Darwin Green are complete with sleek integrated appliances in the fully-fitted kitchen. Bathrooms feature contemporary white sanitaryware and chrome finishes, while the master bedroom is fitted with built-in mirror wardrobes. Each home will have a private garden and one allocated parking bay.

Prices start from £100,000 for a 25% share of a two bedroom house (full market value £400,000) and £136,250 for a 25% share of a three bedroom house (full market value £545,000).
