Legal and General Affordable Homes launch their first Shared Ownership apartments

Marking their move into the affordable housing sector, Legal & General Affordable Homes have announced the launch of their first Shared Ownership apartments – releasing a collection of 50 one and two bedroom apartments at Leon House, in rapidly regenerating Central Croydon.

Part of a popular new development set within a modernist former office block, the homes enjoy a plethora of communal facilities and services to all residents – from a daily concierge service and co-working spaces to a large roof terrace and a private dining room available to hire for dinner parties and events.

Ben Denton, Managing Director for Legal and General Affordable Homes, comments; “We are very excited to be bringing our very first Legal & General Affordable Homes to the market, and to do so within such a fantastic development that offers such a wide range of additional facilities to all residents.

“Shared Ownership gives many buyers the opportunity to get their foot on the property ladder, and Leon House is a prime example of the quality homes Legal & General Affordable Homes want to bring to the market going forward, as we seek to tackle the shortage of affordable housing in the UK.”

At 21 storeys, Leon House has been part of Croydon’s skyline for almost 50 years, recently converted into 263 contemporary apartments, with many offering views towards the City of London and the South Croydon countryside.

The development already has a thriving community of owner-occupier residents, a high proportion of whom work remotely or from home, and who make full use of the many facilities on offer; including a private meeting room, co-working areas (with wifi throughout) and an expansive sky garden, which has already played host to resident movie nights and meet and greet events.

Inside, all homes are fitted with a high quality specification, including oak flooring and specialist ceramic elements, giving a modern and sleek aesthetic. Room sizes and ceiling heights are generous, with large windows to every room allowing plenty of natural light into the apartments.

Positioned just a short walk from East Croydon station, which runs regular services into Clapham Junction and London Victoria, taking just 9 and 17 minutes respectively, Leon House is also ideally located for Croydon High Street and shopping centre.

Croydon Boxpark, offering a wide range of street food and drink options under one roof, is just a 10 minute walk away, while a Westfield shopping centre is due to open in 2023. Also nearby, South End recently gained recognition as Croydon’s restaurant quarter after an injection of £3m, transforming the area and streetscapes and opening a variety of popular independent eateries.

Pricing for Shared Ownership homes at Leon House starts from £88,125 for a 25% share (FMV £352,500).
